Cllr Verden welcomed Cllr Bailey, Leader of the Borough Council of Wellingborough and Mrs Martin-Bennison, Chief Executive of BCW. Cllr Bailey explained that they were visiting every parish in the borough in order to improve communications and working relationships between the parishes and the Borough. The Government are encouraging more downward delegation of powers and the Parish Council is the only body that solely represents the interests of their particular parish, so they hold a very important role. Mrs Martin-Bennison explained that as part of the “Communities in Control” white paper, bodies need to work more naturally together and with great flexibility in order to provide a better service for the people. Cllr Cahill suggested that the Parish Forum meetings held between the parish councils and the Borough Council of Wellingborough would be better if they were held as a workshop on a weekend, where there would be more time to cover a greater number of topics in more detail. Mrs Martin-Bennison will look into this. Cllr Mallards concerns regarding the removal of Any Other Business from the agenda was discussed but, as this is a matter of national legislation, this cannot be dealt with by BCW.
